About

Wayne Ludbey is one of Australia’s best and most experienced photographic journalists, having created iconic images of public figures and remarkable events for over four decades.  His wins and nominations in the Quill and Walkley Awards, and countless AFL awards for Best Action Picture or Best News Picture are a testament to his exceptional skill and his keen eye for the killer shot.

He follows in the footsteps of his idols, the great Australian photographers and social documenters, Max Dupain, Rennie Ellis and William Yang – photographic artists on a never-ending quest to capture the spirit and character of Australia and its people.

His entire career has been dedicated to photography and to building a rich chronicle of Australian life, with the bulk of his career spent at the two major Melbourne newspapers, The Age and The Herald Sun.

Since the do-it-yourself, dark ages of developing photos in darkrooms to the current era of hi-tech digital imagery, Ludbey has continually developed his skills and expertise as a photo journalist, photo editor and in-house photographer.  Now a freelance photographer at the top of his game, he’s been free to dive head-first into any issues he likes, with no limits to his freedom of expression.
